Flora's Chain:
Flora is a Roman goddess of spring and blossoms who reminds us to flourish. Her name literally translates as "flourishing one."
"She was honored each year at a festival called Floralia, on May Eve, or April 30 in our calendar. This was the time in Europe when cattle were moved from their winter pastures to feast on new green growth in spring fields. Some stories say Flora's name was actually the secret name of Rome. Her holiday was celebrated from April 28 to May 3 and included, in addition to Floralia, a longer festival of theatric performances and games, called the Ludi Florales, which celebrated the return of spring. This festival was originally open only to patricians, the wealthy elite, but was subsequently opened as well to plebeians, the common people. Later, church fathers became hostile to these celebrations of fertility, which they called 'licentious,' which means they must have been quite a party." -Goddesses for Every Day, Julie Loar
